Crossens takeaway boasts of ‘world’s hottest curry’ – the Naga Extreme even comes with a health warning!
A CURRY so hot it comes with a health warning is proving a scorching success at a Crossens takeaway.
The Naga Extreme – which contains Bangladeshi Naga chillies 400 times hotter than a jalapeño – is being dubbed the ‘world’s hottest curry’ by Crossens Tandoori.
The Rufford Road takeaway sells up to 40 of the devilish dishes each week to daredevils across the town.
The 2cm-long chillies are so hot that chefs prepare them with gloves on and the takeaway’s menu reads: “We do not accept any liability for any injury caused from eating this dish.”
Owner Sammi Rahman said: “Customers were coming in asking for the hottest thing on the menu, so our chef decided to make a really, really hot curry.
“I didn’t think anybody would be able to finish it, but people seem to love it.
“If you just put the raw chilli on your tongue for a second it goes numb and you feel intense heat in your mouth.”
The Naga registers around one million on the Scoville Scale, which measures the spiciness of chillies – that’s just one level down from pepper spray used by US police.
Our brave photographer, curry connoisseur Rob Lovett, tucked in.
He said: “It didn’t seem that hot on the first mouthful but then the heat kicked in all of a sudden.
“It’s certainly not for the faint hearted. I like a hot curry and this was a serious test.
“If you want the heat of summer but can’t be bothered waiting, then order this!”
Incredibly, curry fan Clive Sweeney orders the Naga Extreme “once or twice a week”.
The Glebe Lane resident, who boasts of an “aluminium stomach”, said: “Nobody can believe that I go back for more on a regular basis.
“There are not really any tips I can offer, but a plentiful supply of water is a must!
Sammi added: “I don’t know how Mr Sweeney does it. He should be in the Guinness Book of Records.”
